My Poetry

Standing with my Family

Bang…
Bang…
My dead body falls
Falls into this pit
Thud…
Thud…
Dirt begins to fill up
Fill up the pit we dug
Thud…
Thud…
Thud…
My bones sit restless
My family might have been with me
Yet, my bones do not feel satisfied
They try to move
And try to see my family
See them one last time
But alas they can't
So instead at this troubled hour
My bones, my body, and me remember
Remember my life and all my memories
I first remember the face
The face of my father
As he stood next to me
Then I see the face of my son next to my father yesterday
When all was normal
We heard news about a German Invasion,
But thought nothing of it
Today, at high noon
They marched us
With our band playing
Playing cheerful music
Out into the middle of the woods
Told us to dig
To dig this pit
The locals cheered
Our friends cheered
At least I know I stood
I stood with my family
